Gail Parker, Director
Approximately seventy-five students a year receive one-on-one individualized tutoring in reading during the school day at Brown Memorial Church. The program's role is to help students improve their reading and to awaken in them a love of reading and a healthy self-image. It is our belief that a lifetime of literacy begins in the early years. Tutors receive excellent training throughout the year in various methods and techniques, including a multi-sensory approach for dyslexic students. |

A nationally accredited social service agency founded in 1849, Family and Children's Services of Central Maryland (FCS) provides services to families and children in any type of difficulty. Their mission (in-part) is to "...establish and stabilize children in families".
Through more than 20 programs in 15 offices throughout Central Maryland, FCS serves over 10,000 families and individuals from birth through the end of life each year. The agency’s Children’s Services division is headquartered in the historic Rolando-Thom House at Bolton and Lanvale Streets. Services at the Lanvale Street office includes recruitment and training of foster and adoptive families for hard-to-place children who are in need of a loving permanent family: medically fragile infants (HIV+ or drug or alcohol addicted babies), older children and sibling groups. |
