THE GATEWAY
MICA's New Residence & Student Life Facility

We are excited to report that construction on The Gateway, MICA’s new residence and student life facility at 1601 Mount Royal Avenue is about to begin! The development of this nine-story building will transform this intersection, the “gateway” to Bolton Hill and to Baltimore’s cultural corridor. Site preparation will begin with the arrival of trailers, large equipment, supplies, and materials. Because the construction timeline is very challenging and the site is so visible, we would like to ask that members of the MICA community and our neighbors help us maintain the safety and efficiency of this worksite. Please do not enter the construction site for any reason, or block access areas. Please do not collect building materials or objects from the area. We will not be able to accommodate requests for visits into the site as time is a critical factor and insurance requirements prohibit guests touring or visiting the site. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by congestion due to the construction project on McMechen Street, Malister Street, and the intersection of North Avenue and Mount Royal. We will work daily with the contractors to minimize traffic congestion or road detours. There will, of course, be noise, dust, and lots of activity in and around the area, and I hope that the excitement of watching The Gateway rise will outweigh the annoyance or frustration of the construction process. We will give the community updates at important milestones in the project, or at times when we’ll need your patience or cooperation.
